I have always wanted to read Jegadeesh’s stories - but did not know where to start. Thank you @Nirmal and @Austin Sounder for shining the spotlight on பேராசிரியரின் கிளி. Here is my review.
Not all who succeed are respected. Not all who are respected have succeeded. பேராசிரியரின் கிளி lingers in this grey space between success and respect.
When Shruti was a nobody, her teacher Ram was a somebody—on the brink of a huge discovery. But today, fifteen years later, she is a somebody, and he is a nobody. A nobody whose address doesn’t even exist on Google Maps. A nobody who gave himself up to alcohol. A nobody who quietly retired.
And yet, despite all the awards Shruti has received, she still longs for his appreciation—his public acknowledgment that she’s done something truly worthy. And he remains silent. Why does he stay silent? Is it jealousy, or something else? Read the story to find the answer—one that’s both surprising and moving.

What I liked about this story: The quirky parrot 🦜causing comical chaos is so adorable. We feel Shruti’s journey—her fear, anger, longing, and need for validation. The slow reveal of who Shruti and Ram really are makes us want to keep reading. The wine stain as a metaphor for unhealed emotional wounds is poetic. And when Ram finally explains his silence, it lands hard—because by then, we’ve lived through Shruti’s confusion and pain.
It’s a great story, and a good introduction to Jegadeesh’s works. Congratulations,
